Suggested fix available for Grand Theft Auto glitch

By Cornelius Wilson on 05/05/08 at 05:33 AM

A fix was announced by distributor Take-Two Interactive late last week and posted on GameSpot. The fix perhaps will satisfy those GTA IV owners, most of them using PlayStation 3, who began reporting that their games were freezing early into play or during installation.

The freezing became apparent when user forums at Take-Two, Sony and elsewhere cited trouble within hours of GTA IV’s debut last week. Those playing GTA IV on the 60-gigabyte version of PS3 seem to have the most trouble, though some gamers say they’ve had glitches on Xbox 360 as well.

However, the fix involves a dozen-step process that includes deleting the initial GTA IV install files, completely disconnecting the PS3 from its Internet hookup and reconnecting it, and disabling the rumble settings on the DualShock 3 controller.

With so many steps involved, and some functionality removed from PS3, the fix is bound to frustrate GTA IV users even if they get it to work. But gamers may have no choice; a repair patch is not likely to appear soon, developer Rockstar Games told Kotaku.
