PS3 FW 3.40 Will Not Include Cross-Game Chat

Just a couple days ago we broke news about PS3 firmware 3.40 and the possibility of it including cross-game chat. This all began when I heard and saw that foreign PlayStation sites were advertising cross-game chat on their websites by saying:

Cross-game Voice Chat: invite your friends to chat online no matter what game you’re all playing, even if they aren’t members of PlayStation Plus.”

There has been loads of anticipation since, so I decided to dig deep and hit up Sony themselves. Read more to find out what they had to say.

So while many sites were given quotes confirming cross-game chat will not be a part of PlayStation Plus, none of these quotes either confirmed nor denied it being a part of PS3 FW 3.40, so I dug deep and got in touch with one of Sony’s company spokespersons, Julie Han, and asked if PS3 owners can expect cross-game chat in PS3 FW 3.40 and this is what she had to say:

“It will not include cross game chat.”

So there you go folks. The highly anticipated cross-game chat will not be a part of PS3 FW 3.40.

Sony to drop price of PS3 to $200?‎ -

While they have since changed it, earlier in the day Sony posted in their new Sony Style 3D site that the PlayStation 3 is available “starting at $199.99.”

When clicking through, there was no links to PS3s available at that price point, but Maxconsole agrees that the error is pretty large for such an important website.

Speculatively, Max says Sony could be preparing a new PS3 model, similar to the Xbox 360 Arcade, that will strip some features (like the larger HDD) and sell for $199.

The move could make sense for Sony, which is seeing strong momentum in console sales against rivals Microsoft and Nintendo but still sells their console for $100 more than the Arcade model and the Wii. That being said, it is hard to see how Sony could strip anything from the console except for lowering the HDD size, which would not save very much money for the company at all.

ModNation Racers Coming on PS3

For the fans of PS3, there is some great news. The latest version of ModNation Racers will be coming soon on PS3. This will surely excite the gamers, who will be keenly looking forward to play the new game.

The game is following the same style, which started with the Little Big Planet. The latest game will have a lot of exciting features that will ensure that the fans remain hooked to it.

It offers exciting personalization features where a player can choose their driver, car and race track easily. He can also share it online with his friends with the help of PlayStation Network. The normal version of the game is still available for the more conventional fans of the game.

The game is especially loved by gamers for its simplicity and this feature is loved by new players, apart from the seasoned fans of the game. It ensures that even a novice can enjoy the game, as much as an expert.

Fans will still love to compete with racers, which are computer-controlled and it is a challenge to beat them. The game is still liked by people of all the age groups and its lovers will once again have a chance to play, what is one of the best kart racing games in the market.

TwistDock station for Sony PlayStation 3 debuting at E3

Gearing up for the official launch of E3 2010 in Los Angeles tomorrow, Vogel has already gotten things rolling with the announcement of the TwistDock for the Sony’s PlayStation 3.

Compatible with both the Original and Slim versions of the PS3, the dock is designed to blend seamlessly with the console so it doesn’t do anything to alter your living room decor set-up too much.

The twist to the TwistDock is that it is more than just a dock. The station hosts the consoles up front, while there are two slots in the back to charge controllers and USB peripherals. Besides keeping things neat and tidy, the TwistDock also adds on two USB ports plus an optional USB hub for four more USB slots.

The TwistDock pricing will be ready to be gifted this holiday season when it is released in the fourth quarter of 2010. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but that will be revealed later this summer.

New PlayStation 3 Father’s Day bundle introduced‎

No, you did not misread that subheadline: Sony’s unveiled a new PlayStation 3 Slim bundle that finally includes an HDMI cable along with a copy of the Game of the Year edition of LittleBigPlanet.

Since the PlayStation 3 has been on sale, those who owned an HDTV had to spend extra to get an HDMI cable to get the optimal visual quality that PS3s offered. It’s taken nearly four years for Sony to get around to tossing in a cable along with the unit, measured at six feet long to boot. LittleBigPlanet GOTY also makes a gracious offering of including 18 user-made levels, and seven DLC packs including the Metal Gear Solid content.

Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for the bundle right now.  It’ll run you $349.99 and will be released June 12.

Gran Turismo 5: PS3 Release Date Delay – More 3D Rumors‎

Gran Turismo 5, it seems just keeps getting delayed with an unholy jinx. The game which is currently under development by Polyphony Digital is a PS3 exclusive title.

First revealed by its producer Kazunori Yamauchi in E3 2006, it has taken more than 4 years and $60 million in its development process. And yet according to Yamauchi, it’s still 90 percent complete (as stated by him during start of May and before that in January). The latest delay, as per the MCV report is due to the developers adding 3-D imaging and Playstation Move support.

Further details will be announced in E3 in June which will be held at Los Angeles Convention Center. The reaction from fans is as expected – frustration and anger. Although getting 3D and Move support is by no means a bad initiative but delaying it any further certainly is. It’s only evident that we gamers want a confirmed release date in this year’s E3 with no further delays for this critically acclaimed racing simulation.

PS3 3D patches will be free‎

A handful of first-party PS3 games will be the first to incorporate the new stereoscopic 3D standard, and gamers should be happy to know that those 3D updates won’t cost a thing.

Within the last month, Sony introduced a new firmware update that makes the PS3 capable of producing 3D images on compatible TV sets. This means the PS3 is already the first, and so far the only, video game console to incorporate the new 3D standard.

Some time this summer, Sony Computer Entertainment will update four of its first-party published games – Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD, and Pain – to render them in 3D.

There wasn’t really any question as to whether or not these game updates would cost anything, but Sony has now confirmed that they will indeed be free.

Sony has been late to the game when it comes to providing 3D TV hardware. Its first sets, to be released under the “Bravia” line, are due out soon, and will probably correspond to the PS3 3D updates.

The flagship Bravia 3D TV will also come with all four of the aforementioned PS3 games for free.

Killzone 3: Release Date Set by Sony, Vehicles and More‎

Are you looking forward to the 3D jetpacking action which Killzone 3 will be offering? If so we have some good news for you, it seems as if Sony have set a release date for the game’s release.
According to a recent article posted on ComputerAndVideoGames Sony has internally set a release date for Killzone 3, apparently we should expect it in May 2011, which is slightly more accurate than the Spring 2011 release date which was previously rumored.

Some other details were also ‘reaffirmed’, such as more than one online co-op mode, including a standard two-player co-op and a four-player co-op as well. As for standard multiplayer gaming, we can expect to see vehicles too.

Other confirmations include PlayStation Move compatibility, Stereoscopic 3D gameplay, jetpacks with guns on them, all of which seem pretty neat.

Killzone 3 officially announced for PS3‎

Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced Killzone 3 today. Our first glimpse of the title came out of the latest GamePro over the weekend, revealing hand-to-hand combat, jetpacks, and bigger everything.
A “war far from won”, Killzone 3 picks up where Killzone 2 left off, with Helghast dictator Visari dead at the hands of Sev and Rico and new political and social madness erupting as a result. A nuclear bomb set off in the Heglhan Capital Phyruss has decimated the ISA invasion force, leaving the player and company alone with no re-enforcements.

Killzone 3 promises levels “ten times bigger” than the previous game, promising new diversity whilst bringing players to toxic wastelands, alien jungles, arctic areas, and even space. Guerrilla says “every location features a distinct gameplay style for you to master.”

New features for the game includes “high definition, stereoscopic 3D”, jetpack troopers, “portable weapons of mass destruction”, and a lot more.
